12 Rounds of Christmas: Santa Cruz vs Mares – Round 2
In the spirit of the season, Premier Boxing Champions is gifting fight fans with video clips from 12 of the year’s most exciting rounds, all from bouts staged under the PBC banner.
Presented in chronological order from Round 1 through Round 12, the series debuted December 14 and continues daily through December 25.
Round 2 comes from the all-out war between 126-pound brawlers Leo Santa Cruz and Abner Mares.

The two Southern California rivals gave fight fans their money’s worth August 29 in Los Angeles, combining to throw more than 2,000 punches.
As was the case in an entertaining first round, Mares played the role of hard-charging bull in Round 2, but Santa Cruz was hardly in matador mode, returning fire with fire, even in retreat.
In what would prove to be a recurring theme in the fight, Mares and Santa Cruz closed Round 2 with an epic toe-to-toe flurry in which both fighters gave as good as they got.
When all was said and done, Santa Cruz earned a majority decision, but the true winners were fight fans who were treated to an old-school, backyard rumble in which defense was an afterthought.
