Source: Fernando Montiel Hurt In Motorcyle Accident
UPDATE: It looks like the severity of the injury was initially overstated. Montiel may be out for a slated November tuneup, but his injured right leg, which is indeed in a cast, could be well enough for the proposed Donaire clash.
Someone should invent some sort of device that will send a non lethal shock harsh enough to dissuade boxers from hopping on motorcycles.
Mexican bantamweight champion Fernando Montiel, who was looking forward to a big money HBO showdown with Nonito Donaire in February, will instead be on the shelf, after breaking his fibula in a motorcycle accident in Mexico, TSS has learned.
Montiel (43-2-2, with 33 stops) was 3-0 in 2010, and is coming off a third round KO win over Rafael Concepcion on July 17. He turned down an offer to be part of Showtimes bantam tourney, perhaps a wise choice since we all know how tournaments, hatched with the best of intentions, can come apart at the seams and become unmanageable.
So, TSS U, what should Donaire do with himself if and when he gets past Wlad Sidorenko on December 4th, on the Julio Cesar Chavez-Alfonso Gomez tussle.
