Garcia Beats Morales, Kirkland Wins By Bizarre DQ Over Molina
Danny Garcia finished the job started by the scale, as he handed vet Erik Morales a UD12 defeat at the Reliant Center in Houston Saturday night. The Philly kid rose to 23-0 and punctuated the win with a knockdown in round 11. The scores were 117-110, 116-112, 118-109. Morales missed the weight, scaling in at 142 for the 140 pound tussle, and he gave up his WBC crown Friday. Garcia is now the WBC champ.
James Kirkland won in controversial fashion, by DQ in round ten, over Carlos Molina. Ref Jon Schorle disqualified Molina when his team entered the ring after Kirkland dropped the boxer who was ahead on the cards, 88-83, 87-84, 87-84. A right hand made him hit the canvas, he took an eight count, he was ready to resume fighting, and the ref ended it, because a cornerman came to the ring.
