His Team Says Maurice Harris Was Robbed in Germany
May 7, 2012 – This past weekend in Germany, heavyweight contender Maurice Harris (25-16-2, 11 KOs) who hails from East Orange, NJ, dropped a disputed decision to undefeated local favorite and hometown hero, Edmund Gerber (19-0, 13 KOs). Everyone who watched felt Harris was robbed. The scorecards read 78-74 and 79-73 twice, all in favor or Gerber.
“There's no doubt about it I was robbed this weekend,”the hard-luck Harris said. “Gerber landed maybe five punches the entire fight. I was too slick for him and he couldn't touch me. I landed more punches and everyone who saw the fight knew I should have won. Like everyone says, if you fight overseas, you better get the knockout, because the judges are going to favor the hometown guy.I would love to fight Gerber here in America, but I don't think it will happen because he knows deep down inside his mind that he lost to me already.I'll be back soon.”
Said promoter Mario Yagobi, “Edmund Gerber was outclassed this weekend by Harris. There's no way Gerber should have gotten the decision, as he literally only landed a hand full of punches on Maurice throughout the whole fight. I will be talking to the IBF in regards to Maurice's ranking. He should still remain in the top 10.”
