How Do YOU See Abregu vs. Ali Playing Out?
Sadam Ali has it in him, his people think, he thinks…but we won’t know until Saturday night if he can fight that perfect fight, on message, fully focused, chin tucked, against Luis Carlos Abregu.
The bout, a significant step-up, a big risk-big reward special put together by advisor Anthony Catanzaro, will run on HBO, before the Bernard Hopkins-Sergey Kovalev scrap, at Boadrwalk Hall in Atlantic City.
Ali’s trainer Andre Rozier told me his kid needs to use his speed, accuracy, mobility and ring generalship, and if he does, he will win. “It’s a tough fight,” the tutor allowed.
Ali’s punches are usually tight, which could and should work against the more free-swinging Argentine, we both agreed. Ali, a Canarsie, Brooklyn resident, must dart in and out, never forget to move, and yes, he could get a signature win.
Catanzaro isn’t BSing, isn’t suggesting his guy holds all cards. “Sadam is the better athlete,” he told me. “He has the better feet and hands and has to have the discipline to stick to the gameplan. It’s the best opponent he’s had to date…but it’s his time.”
Ali (20-0) told me that one to ten, ten being most sure of himself that he’ll get the W, he’s at a ten. He respects the Abregu (36-1) power, in both hands, but notes he can be off balance, look a little sloppy. “I have to fight the perfect fight, I can’t make no mistakes,” he admitted, to his credit.
How do you see this one playing out, friends?
