Are Calves An Issue For Pacman? Roach Weighs In
Rumors are ripping round the web, the Congressman’s calves aren’t barking and setting to bite him on fight night.
True or false, Coach Freddie Roach?
We asked the 7-time BWAA Trainer of the Year the real deal, how bad those immense protrusions of muscle are holding up, if it’s true that cramps are breaking Manny’s stride, and eating into his time prepping for the Super Bowl of Boxing, #MayweatherPacquiao.
“He did have problems,” Roach allowed. But, the trainer said, he had a fabulous specialist come to Wild Card and give Manny a once and twice over. No tears, the doc said. “It was clean as can be,” he said.
Yep, some shin splints have been an issue, from doing hills, so Roach and coach Justin Fortune have him ceasing putting his shins at the hill-y angle, and he is instead doing track work.
So, true or false, calf cramping issues are a big deal right now? “False,” said Roach. “He’s had no complaints for about ten days.”
Saturday, the Filipino did two rounds sparring with one guy, four with another, and three with a third. Roach wasn’t all that pleased, though. So he added extra mitt work, doing 12 on Monday, and they worked on some of what Roach didn’t dig Saturday. There will be sparring today, Tuesday, with young guns who are being promised bonuses to knock Manny on his can-ny. By the end of the week, Manny will spar ten rounds, he added. “I could’t ask for better work from Manny. Though yes, we do have to fight the perfect fight, because Mayweather is one of the best in the world. But I’m not thinking we need a KO. I think we beat Floyd every single round. If we KO him, it’s bonus.”
