Duva and Michel Dialoguing About Kovalev-Beterbiev
The Sergey Kovalev-Nadjib Mohammedi bout was a bit of a bummer, being that Mo got stopped out early, without being in the fight for a second. We knew he was in tough, but hoped–maybe too optimistically?—that he’d rise to the occasion, summon a warrior reservoir and at least make it grueling for a few moments for Krusher. Not so…
But the disappointment turned around a tad when Kovalev promoter Kathy Duva told me Sunday she wanted to make a November fight for Sergey, in Russia, against young bomber Artur Beterbiev. That caught my attention…Yeah?
Indeed…she said she’d be reaching out to Beterbiev promoter Yvon Michel ASAP and get that promotion to fruition. Monday, she told me…
So I checked in with Michel Tuesday. The Canada-based dealmaker, who is part of Team Beterbiev, along with uber advisor Al Haymon, replied on whether or not he’d heard from Duva.
Sunday night, he admitted he wasn’t sure how things would proceed, as he and Duva have beefed before, after Haymon signed Adonis Stevenson, while Duva and Michel were crafting an Adonis Stevenson-Sergey Kovalev showdown. Did you hear from Kathy, Yvon?
“Yes, she is a lady of her word,” Michel told me. “We got a proposal and dialogue has been established. We are going in the right direction!”
Amen…let’s keep it up, y’all, for the good of the sport!
