David Lemieux Returns This Saturday – When last we saw David Lemieux (34-3), it was last October 17th and the hard hitting Canadian was serving as the opposition for Middleweight kingpin Gennady Golovkin. Now, this Saturday, March 12th he returns to his hometown of Montreal to face James De La Rosa (23-3) at the Olympia Theatre.

Lemieux entered the Golovkin fight having won nine fights in a row, and with 31 knockouts in his 34 wins, he was sold as a credible opponent by the likes of Golden Boy Promoter Oscar De La Hoya, but he turned in a generally dissappointing performace that saw Golovkin finish him in the eighth round.

For Lemieux, this match with De La Rosa is planned as a comeback fight. Lemieux is a boxing star in Montreal, where he has fought most of his career. He has headlined the Bell Center, the 20,000 plus seat arena where the Montreal Canadiens play hockey, and the fight with Golovkin was at New York’s fabled Madison Square Garden.

The Olympia is a completely different venue. The room seats 1,300 as Lemieux seems to want to get back to the basics for this fight. He is reported to have emerged from the fight with Triple GGG relatively unscathed, and with a lot of motivation. After a short period of down-time, Lemieux was back in the gym training.

De La Rosa has not fought since a December of 2014 loss to undefeated Hugo Centeno Jr, and he has gone 3-3 since a January of 2011 return from a 15 month layoff. Right now, the sportbooks have Lemieux a wide -2000 favorite, with the return coming back on De La Rosa at +1250.

The card also features the presence of Mian Hussain (14-0) and his brother Ayaz Hussain (9-0). The pair of Montreal natives are 25 and 24 years old respectively and they are already drawing interest as a “local” draw.
