Joel Casamayor Decisions Diego Corrales
Joel Casamayor wins split decision over Diego Corrales
In a bout that was more chess match than ground offensive, Diego Corrales, who was stripped of his WBC lightweight title and fined for not making weight last week, lost a split decision to Joel Casamayor Saturday night over twelve rounds.
The judges scored it 116-111 and 115-112 for Casamayor; a third judge had it 114-113 for Corrales.
The southpaw Casamayor seemed superior in almost every department and kept Chico from fighting his fight from the opening bell. Many, including Corrales’ trainer Joe Goossen, believe Corrales struggle with weight weakened him for the fight.
“There is something to be said about not eating for five days,” Goossen said, according to the AP. “You wouldn’t do that to a terrorist.”
