Cintron Smashes Matthysse In AC
Kermit Cintron served notice that his heavy hands and aggressive style need to be reckoned with in the welterweight division, as the Puerto Rican born hitter scored a second round KO over Walter Matthysse in Atlantic City on Saturday evening.
Cintron knocked the Argentine to the floor in the first with a long right set up by a right upper, but the bell sounded before he could finish the job.
Cintron, trained my Manny Steward, went back to work right away to start the second. He dropped the loser with another fluid right to the chin 12 seconds in. He got up, but ate a left hook, and right follow to the temple.
That was it, as the ref saw his unfocused eyes and stopped the contest at :29 of the second.
Cintron, in his second defense of the IBF belt, is 28-1, with 26 KOs. Matthysse drops to 26-2.
