Vargas Sick, Fight Vs. Mayorga Postponed
The Fernando Vargas/ Ricardo Mayorga bout scheduled for Sept. 8 at the STAPLES Center in Los Angeles on Sept. 8 has been postponed, after a Vargas blood test showed an iron deficiency, the promoters of the event, Main Events and Don King, have announced.
The test result on Friday means that Vargas will have to attend to the problem for weeks, the promoters said. A reschedule date will be announced shortly.
Vargas (26-4, 22 KOs) and Mayorga (27-6-1, 22 KOs) had been promoting this bout, hyped as Vargas' last, with particular vehemence. The postponement is sure to give Mayorga, the sport's most vile trash talker, that much more ammo to make use of…
