Peter/McCline Bout Under Steroid Cloud
The heavyweight title fight between Samuel Peter and Jameel McCline on Saturday night at Madison Square Garden may not take place, the AP reports.
Tim Smith and TJ Quinn of the NY Daily News reported that McCline, formerly based in New Jersey but currently living in Florida, received more than $12,000 worth of steroids, human growth hormone and related drugs within the last two years.
New York State Athletic Commission chairman Ron Scott Stevens told the Daily News that he would consult with the state's attorney general's office to determine whether or not the bout could take place.
We're guessing it will, contrary to the AP's implication.
The News states that the last shipment of medications, from a Florida source, was shipped to McCline in December. He's passed a drug test in NY before, when he fought Chris Byrd in 2004.
McCline (38-7-3, 23 KOs) and Peter (28-1, 22 KOs) will battle for the WBC interim heavyweight title. McCline is subbing for Oleg Maskaev, who withdrew at last minute with an injured back.
