Looking at the Odds for Friday’s Fights on DAZN
DAZN has a trio of veteran promoters in Eddie Hearn, Lou DiBella and J Russell Peltz in Philadelphia working together on a 9-fight boxing card tonight at Philly’s Liacouras Center. A pair of world title fights sit at the top of the evening’s event and a handful of the fights are getting attention at the sports books. Check your local listings for streaming start times and check the current odds below.
The women’s lightweight division sees a clash of undefeated champions as WBA/IBF lightweight champion Katie Taylor (12-0) of Ireland faces Brazil’s Rosa Volante (14-0), who holds the WBO title.
Taylor, 32, turned pro after an extensive amateur career that saw her become a household name in her native Ireland. As a pro, she moved quickly, becoming a world champion in just her seventh professional fight. With the upswing on the women’s side of the sport, Taylor (pictured) is looking to become the face of women’s boxing and she has already shown she can move the needle as an attraction. As an amateur she won gold at the 2012 Olympic games where she was chosen to carry Ireland’s flag during the opening ceremonies and she has been Ireland’s darling ever since. Volante won the WBO belt on the road in Argentina back in December of 2017 and defended the belt twice in 2018. However, she has not faced anyone on the level of Taylor and the odds show it.
IBF super featherweight titlist Tevin Farmer (28-4-1) returns for the third defense of his belt as he takes on undefeated Irish fighter Jono Carroll (16-0-1). Carroll is making his first appearance in the United States. Farmer has only six career stoppages and Carroll has only three, so both rely on impressing the judges when they are at their best. Promoter Eddie Hearn is said to be holding a $5 million offer for Farmer to face undefeated WBA super featherweight champ Gervonta Davis (21-0) with a win here.
A competitive lightweight bout sees veteran Henry Lundy (29-7-1) facing Avery Sparrow (9-1). Both fighters are out of Philadelphia and both are looking to put adversity behind them. Lundy is coming off a 12-round loss last September in Russia to undefeated Zaur Abdullaev (10-0). Sparrow won his last fight in March of 2018, but the ruling was turned to a NC after a failed PED test.
Once beaten middleweight Maciej Sulecki (27-1) faces veteran warhorse Gabriel Rosado (24-11-1) in another 10 round bout. Sulecki took an April of 2018 loss to Daniel Jacobs that saw him lose a UD after 12 rounds, and he bounced back with a knockout win this last November.
