Pride Of Youngstown Pavlik Takes Decision
There were no knockdowns, and the Pavlik/Taylor rematch will not considered for Fight of the Year, but it was a tightly contested tussle that took place in las Vegas on Saturday evening. Once again, Kelly Pavlik, the pride of Youngstown, emerged the victor, this time going the distance, and outworking the former middleweight champion Jermain Taylor.
I scored it 118-111 for Pavlik, who simply outhrew the Arkansas hitter from start to finish.
Pavlik went 267-845, while Taylor was 178-456 in the course of the 166 catchweight contest.
Taylor had success landing his sharp jab, but he simply didn't throw it often enough.
The judges saw it 118-113, 117-111, 116-112.
Neither man was ever in serious trouble, as both men tightened up defensively compared to their September faceoff.
Please stay tuned for David Avila's detailed ringside report.
