Almost A GIANT Upset: Valuev Over Holyfield
Nikolay Valuev got more than he bargained for as Evander Holyfield took it to the giant in Switzerland on Saturday night, and the 7-footer did well to escape with a majority decision, by scores of 114-114, 116-112 and 115-114.
“I thought I had done enough to get the win,” Holyfield said to the AP. “Now I have to go home and think about my future.”
Holyfield (42-10-2) last fought in October 2007, and he looked like he had next to nothing left against Sultan Ibragimov, then the World Boxing Organization champion.
But Holyfield showed he still has something to offer, and made Valuev (51-1), who outweighed Holyfield by 100 pounds, sweat bullets waiting for the decision.
A rematch is a most likely occurrence.
