Angelo Dundee Joins Golden Boy
Legendary trainer Angelo Dundee has come aboard Golden Boy Promotions, and he will aid Nacho Beristain in traing Oscar De La Hoya for his Dec. 6 bout against Manny Pacquiao.
He will view tape, and help formulate a strategy to fight Pac Man, and will look to add to the list of champions–now 15–on his resume.
Dundee just had a “minor procedure” on his throat but he was able to share his excitement at the new gig. “I can't tell you how pleased I am to be involved, this is the fight,” he said. There will be no problem co-existing with Nacho Beristain, he said, because he's been working with Macho, as in Camacho.
The 87-year-old Dundee has been busy marketing his new book this year. He sounded jazzed to be working with Oscar, and GB's Richard Schaefer said he will sit in the front row, close to the corner, on fight night.
Dundee said this Dec. 6 bout is of a larger magnitude than Oscar/Floyd, and Schaefer agreed, because Pacquaio, he said, has a more rabid following.
Schaefer said Dundee will go to Big Bear on Nov.12, which is media day, to aid in the preparation.
