Anthony Joshua Discharged from Hospital After Fatal Nigeria Car Crash — Latest Updates
Former two-time world heavyweight boxing champion Anthony Joshua has been discharged from hospital in Lagos, Nigeria, following the tragic road accident that claimed the lives of two of his close friends and team members.
Crash Details and Immediate Aftermath
The accident occurred on December 29, 2025, on the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway in Ogun State. A Lexus SUV carrying Joshua and others reportedly collided with a stationary truck while attempting to overtake at a high speed.
According to authorities, the vehicle lost control before striking the truck. Eyewitness accounts described chaotic scenes at the crash site, with Joshua seen visibly shaken and surrounded by shattered glass in the wrecked car.
Fatalities and Injuries
Two people in the vehicle died at the scene: Sina Ghami, Joshua’s strength and conditioning coach and Latif “Latz” Ayodele, Joshua’s personal trainer and longtime friend. Both were described by close associates as integral members of Joshua’s training camp and personal support team.
Joshua, 36, was seated in the rear of the SUV behind the driver and sustained minor injuries. Nigerian police and medical officials confirmed he did not require emergency surgery and was treated at Lagoon Hospital in Lagos.
Release from Hospital and Funeral Arrangements
Lagos and Ogun State officials announced that Joshua had been discharged after being deemed clinically fit to recuperate at home.
In an official statement, state governments offered “deep condolences” to the families of the deceased and prayed for support for their loved ones.
Joshua and his mother were present at a Lagos funeral home to pay their respects as preparations were made for the repatriation of Ghami and Ayodele’s remains.
Legal and Investigative Developments
The driver of Joshua’s vehicle has also been released from the hospital but may face charges related to reckless or dangerous driving in connection with the crash.
Police and road safety authorities continue to investigate the exact causes of the accident. Early findings suggest excessive speed and a problematic overtaking maneuver were key factors, though some eyewitnesses have also mentioned a possible tire burst.
Road Safety Concerns Sparked by the Crash
The incident has reignited discussion about road safety in Nigeria. The Federal Road Safety Corps reports thousands of annual road fatalities, and critics on social media have highlighted challenges around emergency response infrastructure and traffic enforcement.
We at TSS offer our heartfelt condolences. Our thoughts and prayers are with Anthony Joshua, his team, and their loved ones.
