Antonio Tarver Gets TKO Win Over Danny Green in Australia
In a battle of cruiserweight oldsters, it was the 42 year-old Antonio Tarver who emerged as the fighter with a future, as he outclassed 38-year-old Danny Green, the IBO cruiser titlist, in Sydney, Australia on Wednesday evening.
The ex light heavyweight titlist Tarver landed hard, clean shots, and Team Green ended the affair after nine rounds.
Tarver had dabbled in the heavyweight division, beating journeyman Nagy Aguilera in October. But he looked in sync at cruiserweight, and whacked the Aussie Green (31-4; ex super middle, light heavy champ) with the left hand time and again.
This may well be the end of this road for Green, who turned pro in 2001. Meanwhile, Tarver, who turns 43 in November, has some gas left in the tank, and the drive to keep on keeping on.
