Avila Perspective, Chap. 345: MVP Promotions Brings Women’s Boxing to Canada
For the second time in a week Canada and Argentina pit their champions against each other.
IBF minimumweight titlist Sol Cudos (10-0-2, 3 KOs) travels to Montreal to defend against former light flyweight titlist Kim Clavel (21-2, 3 KOs) who is dropping down a weight division to meet the Argentine on Saturday, Sept. 27, at Theater St. Denis.
DAZN will stream the Most Valuable Promotions card live.
Just a week ago Argentina’s Evelin Bermudez traveled to Ottawa to defend the WBO and WBA titles against Sara Bailey and knocked her out in the first round with a crunching overhand right.
Clavel (pictured) and Cudos are not power punchers but have distinctive styles. The Argentine is more defensive-minded with a very tight guard. Canada’s Clavel is a high volume puncher with speed. It could be a judge’s nightmare or a fans delight.
The co-main event features undefeated male welterweights Mazlum Akdeniz (21-0, 8 KOs) of Canada against Colorado’s Anthony Soto (13-0-1, 8 KOs).
Most Valuable Promotions is once again proving they are not mere wordplay when it comes to showcasing female fighters. Three other female bouts are planned for this card in Montreal.
One fighter Naomy Valle is familiar to boxing fans on the West Coast. She is the younger sister of light flyweight champion Yokasta Valle and both are now signed with MVP. The sisters hail from Costa Rica.
The Valle sisters are not carbon copy pugilists. Naomy Valle (14-0, 9 KOs) does not possess the speed of Yokasta but makes up for it with power. Her nine knockouts in 14 fights nearly equal Yokasta Valle’s 10 in 36 fights. She will be meeting Italy’s Federica Macri (6-0-1, 1 KO) in a light flyweight match set for eight rounds.
Naomy Valle is now 21 years old and was signed first by MVP. Her older sister was just recently signed this year. Both are guided by Mario Vega of Costa Rica. He has piloted several notable fighters from Costa Rica in the past.
Another Canadian on the bill is bantamweight Amanda Galle (11-0-1) who meets Mexico’s Alondra Hernandez (9-1) in another eight rounder. The Mexican fighter recently lost to Alexas Kubicki who was dismantled by Gabriela Fundora last week in Indio, Calif.
Middleweight Tamm Thibeault (3-0, 2 KOs) faces Italy’s Cristina Mazzotta in the fourth female bout on the MVP card.
Jake Paul, Amanda Serrano and Nakisa Bidarian are building an army of female pugilists for their company. Ever since Paul began backing Serrano the interest in female boxing has increased dramatically.
Last year, the Mike Tyson versus Jake Paul fight paired with Serrano versus Katie Taylor amassed more than 70 million viewers on Netflix. That was the catalyst, especially when Serrano and Taylor battled like Amazon warriors to the amazement of the world not privy to women’s boxing.
Most Valuable Promotions has invested heavily in women’s boxing and this fight card in Montreal is the continuation of that process.
SoCal Action
DMG Boxing and Promotions presents undefeated super lightweights David Romero (7-0-2) and Pedro Valencia (11-0) at the Fox Theater in Pomona on Saturday, Sept. 27. Doors open at 6 p.m.
Undefeated super middleweight Ruben Cazales (12-0) will test his skills against veteran Vaughn Alexander (19-15-2) who has faced many of the best including Sergiy Derevyanchenko, Christian Mbilli and Bektemir “the Bully” Melikuziev. None of those fighters were able to knock him out.
The Fox Theater is not very big so get there early or be shut out.
East LA
Also, on Saturday, Sept. 27, at Salesian High School in East Los Angeles, a slew of eager prizefighters perform on the Elite Boxing show.
The card is filled with mostly four-round fights and one six round bout that features Angel Rebollar (8-5) against Jose Valenzuela Alvarado (4-21-3) in a super welter match. Doors open at 6 p.m.
