Avila Perspective, Chap. 354: World Titles at Stake in San Antonio
Down in San Antonio a slew of champions, contenders and others will be looking to settle things.
Led by Mexican buzzsaw Isaac “Pitbull” Cruz (28-3-1, 18 KOs) who meets Lamont Roche (25-1-2, 10 KOs) at the Frost Bank Center in San Antonio, Texas on Saturday Dec. 6. PPV.Com and Amazon pay-per-view will both stream the impressive TGB Promotions card.
“Roach was expecting a rematch with Gervonta Davis that never materialized,” said Chris Algieri a former world champion who will be analyzing for PPV.COM. “Cruz is also chasing Tank Davis. This is perfect.”
It’s a loaded card that also features Shane Mosley Jr. versus Jesus Ramos for the interim WBC middleweight title; WBC super feather O’Shaquie Foster (23-3) vs Stephen Fulton (23-1); and WBA middleweight champ Erislandy Lara (31-3-3, 19 KOs) versus late replacement Johan Gonzalez (36-4, 34 KOs).
Janibek Alimkhanuky the IBF and WBO middleweight titlist was originally scheduled to meet Lara but tested positive for PEDs.
Perhaps the most intriguing for me is Mosley (22-4, 12 KOs) versus Ramos (23-1, 19 KOs). It’s California versus Arizona; and two guys who mean business whenever they jump in the prize ring. These guys go for broke.
Mosley, of course, is the son of the great Sugar Shane Mosley but other than sharing the same name, they are physically different. Junior is much taller and has a different fighting style than his father.
Ramos is a pressure fighter accustomed to mowing down the competition through grit and determination. He does not bother trying to out-box, he simplifies his attack to out-punch the opposition. He has a motor that never stops.
Both have granite rock chins and can absorb a lot of punishment.
Each of the pay-per-view fights have something to offer for fight fans.
Mexico’s Cruz has demonstrated against several top fighters that he can dominate through pure force like a human avalanche. Just ask Rolly Romero or Tank Davis. Cruz is a handful of energy.
Roche is the antidote for anyone with knockouts on their mind. He is the anti-Cruz, the nullifier of swat. Like Dodger pitcher Yoshinobu Yamamoto pitching to homerun king Cal Raleigh. He is a master of neutralization.
“Cruz wants to invoke chaos,” said Algieri. “Lamont makes you think it’s a battle of not only real estate but pace.”
Who will prevail to walk away with the interim WBC super lightweight title?
It’s a loaded boxing card that Algieri and Dan Canobbio are hosting and communicating with fans during the fights. They will be available on PPV.COM. Algieri, in particular, has a wealth of boxing knowledge with his experience as a top-level fighter who opposed Conor Benn, Errol Spence Jr., Ruslan Provodnikov, Amir Khan and Manny Pacquiao. Do you realize how good you need to be to face that kind of opposition?
