The PBC is scheduled to be back at the D.C. Armory at the end of the month, on April 30th, with a SHOWTIME card headlined by the WBC World Super Middleweight title defense for Badou Jack as he faces Canada’s rugged Lucian Bute. On the evening of the Broner-Theophane fight, the PBC will be hosting a press conference and media event hyping the Jack-Bute fight. The event starts at 6 PM EST in the Ceremony Room of the D.C. Armory
Badou Jack won the WBC Super Middleweight belt on April 24, 2015, winning a majority decision over Anthony Dirrell. He successfully defended the belt in September, winning a split decision over England’s George Groves. Jack is currently ranked #3 in the Super Middleweight division by the Transnational Boxing Rankings Board.
As for Bute, he rejuvenated his career last November with a valiant effort against England’s James DeGale for the British fighter’s IBF Super Middleweight belt. Bute had previously held the IBF Super Middleweight title for more than four years before losing the belt to Carl Froch. Bute’s sharp performance in November saw him enter the TBRB rankings at #8.
The IBF title will also be on the line as James DeGale is facing the challenge of Rogelio Medina on April 30 in D.C. as well.
Having the IBF and the WBC World titles at Super Middleweight contested on the same night could be a prelude to a unification match between the winners later this year.
The Premier Boxing Champions will also be at the Trump Taj Mahal on April 29 with another card set to air on SpikeTV. That card features Super Middleweight contenders Anthony and Andre Dirrell, as Andre faces Blake Caparello and Anthony takes on Caleb Truax. The winners of those bouts will factor heavily in the future of the Super Middleweight division.
