Barclays Center Quick Results – Saturday night, April 16th saw NBC air the Premier Boxing Champions series live from the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

The WBO cruiserweight belt was on the line as champion Krzysztof Glowacki (25-0) faced former titleholder Steve Cunningham (28-7-1) in a twelve round feature bout. Glowacki was smaller in stature than his opponent, but it did not stop the southpaw from exchanging from the get go.

Glowacki had solid crowd support in Brooklyn, and round two saw him send Cunningham down to the canvas twice. Cunningham got up, but the starch had been taken out of him.

Glowacki settled in to counter-punch and though Cunningham had good exchanges, Glowacki answered back each time. Cunningham was in great shape as usual, but he was wearing down at a faster rate than Glowacki. In the end, Glowacki sent Cunningham down in the tenth and again in the twelfth to seal the deal and move to 26-0. Cunningham falls to 28-8-1.

The vacant WBC United States title is going home with light heavyweight Marcus Browne after a hard fought eight round bout against Radivoje Kalajdzic. Browne was credited with a knockdown in round one that appeared to be from a hit as his opponent had slipped. Kalajdzic battled back and appeared to be the aggressor in the second half of the fight. He knocked Browne down in round 6, but was bloodied in round seven by an accidental head butt. At the end, the judges gave a split decision to Browne, 76-74, 76-75 while the third judge had it going the other way, 76-74. Kalajdzic may be correct in thinking Browne benefitted from the hometown decision.

The main event saw Errol Spence Jr come out of the chute fast against Chris Algieri, A sound boxer who can certainly take a punch, Algieri was on the defensive because he could not get off before Spence. Round three saw Spence Jr settle into the fight, and he was putting rounds into the bank. Round four saw Spence Jr knock Algieri to the canvas. Algieri took the full time to get up, breathing deeply, and he appeared wobbly once on his feet. Algieri survived the round and perhaps frustrated, he pushed Spence Jr to the canvas as round four drew to a close.

Spence Jr came out in round five and he displayed another level. He took it to Algieri, sending him falling back to the canvas on the seat of his pants. This time, Spence Jr did not let Algieri off the hook as he caught him on the ropes and sent him to the canvas again with a flurry. The ref stepped in as Algieri sat on the canvas. Spence Jr takes the next step in his development, becoming the first fighter to stop Algieri.

The complete live event featured eight fights total. In key undercard fights, light heavyweight Mario Barrios got to 15-0 with a comfortable eight round UD over veteran Edgar Gabejan and undefeated featherweight Heather Hardy advanced to 16-0 after stopping Anna Donatella Hultin (8-3 now) in the fourth round of their eight round bout. The stoppage came at the 2:48 mark.
