BB King’s Hosts Midweek Boxing This Wed
BB King’s Hosts Midweek Boxing – Promoter Lou DiBella is back in New York City this Wednesday, January 27th with an eight fight boxing card at BB King’s Blues Club.
The main event sees undefeated Super Bantamweight prospect Luis Rosa (21-0) facing veteran German Meraz (52-36-1). The fight will invoke the now classic “Puerto Rico vs Mexico” rivalry, as Rosa is from Puerto Rico and Meraz represents Sonora, Mexico. The bout, scheduled for eight rounds, figures to be a showcase for Rosa who now lives in nearby Connecticut. Meraz’ record has a lot of solid fighters on it which whom he went the distance such as Rau’shee Warren (now 13-1), Gervonta Davis (now 14-0), Juan Carlos Payano (now 17-0) and Miguel Flores (now 19-0). Any of those would make a good opponent for Rosa’s next feature fight.
The rest of the card is filled with prospects from DiBella’s stable, with undefeated Super Lightweight Louis Cruz (11-0) and former US Olympian Light Heavyweight Lenin Castillo (12-0-1) topping the list. Check the DiBella Entertainment website right here.
DiBella is the promoter behind the recent Barclays Center card that aired on Showtime and featured Deontay Wilder’s WBC heavyweight title defense against Artur Szpilka. DiBella’s shows at BB King’s have become very well attended. The series is called “Broadway Boxing”.
DiBella returns to BB King’s with more mid-week “Broadway Boxing” on February 17th.
One loose end coming from what was otherwise a terrific night of fights at the Barclays Center was the cancellation of Amanda Serrano’s fight. Serrano (26-1-1) was slated to take on Helen Joseph (12-3-1) for the vacant WBO featherweight title, but the fight didn’t come off.
In the post-fight press conferences on January 16th DiBella stated that Joseph had not even gotten on the plane in her native Ghana.
DiBella then mentioned the February 17th date as a potential date to bring Serrano back to the ring, but there has not been further word.
The complete Jan. 27 card as it stands right now appears below, with several “To Be Decided” spots with fighters pending.
