Berchelt vs Miura Go To War in Los Angeles
Berchelt vs Miura Go To War in Los Angeles Golden Boy Promotions was at the Inglewood Forum for the second night of a doubleheader in Southern California.
WBC world super featherweight champion Miguel Berchelt took on Japan’s Takashi Miura in the evening’s main event. The pair looked to be on their way to deliver fireworks as expected as Miura hit the canvas in the opening round. Miura got up and the two men settled into a more tactical battle that saw Berchelt use a lot of movement combined with crisp punching to apparently win just about every round. Miura still has the fighting spirit but up against a 25 year old champion, the mileage on Miura really showed. In the end, Berchelt retained his WBC super featherweight belt via a comfortable unanimous decision.
The second super featherweight world title fight saw WBA titlist Jezreel Corrales run into spirited veteran Robinson Castellanos. It was a hard fought war of attrition that ended 31 seconds into the 10th round when an accidental clash of heads opened a bad cut under Castellanos swollen right eye. Both men had seen the canvas in a fight that went to the judges cards where Corrales emerged with a majority decision (94-94,94-93,96-92).
Light heavyweight action opened the broadcast as Cuba’s Sullivan Barrera got up off the canvas in round one to outpoint Joe Smith Jr and go home with the WBC’s Interational title at 175 pounds.
TSS’s own David Avila was live at the Forum for the fights so don’t forget to check back a little bit later for his report.
