Boxing News: Brad Jacobs Joins Star Boxing
NEW YORK (May 8, 2006) – Joe DeGuardia’s Star Boxing is proud to announce the hiring of Brad Jacobs as its new Senior Vice-President of Operations and Development.
Jacobs comes to Star Boxing after a successful six year stint as the senior advisor to future Hall of Fame boxer Roy Jones Jr. and Jones’ promotional company Square Ring Inc. Star Boxing and Square Ring co-promoted the great trilogy between Antonio Tarver and Roy Jones Jr.
“We are ecstatic to have a guy with the experience of Brad Jacobs to be a part of Star Boxing” said DeGuardia. “Brad and I worked together on three of the biggest fights in the history of boxing and I know he will be a huge asset to the Star Boxing team.”
“I have been in this business for many years as a promoter, adviser and television executive and I can truly say that Star Boxing is in a strong position to become one of the major players in the industry for a long time and I am thrilled to be a part of it. I have a great deal of respect for what Joe has done with Star Boxing. Although we have been in adversarial roles for the better part of 3 years, spanning the three Tarver v Jones fights, we always seemed to find a way to represent our interests in a professional and friendly manner; I look forward to working on the same side of the ring with Joe”, said Jacobs.
Before working with Jones, Jacobs spent twelve years at USA Network as it’s “programming consultant” to their sports department. Jacobs turned a little known boxing program into the highest rated, longest running ( at the time) highly acclaimed, award winning weekly boxing series on cable television featuring such fighters as George Foreman, Larry Holmes, Hector Camacho, Robert Duran, Roy Jones, Antonio Tarver, Oscar De La Hoya to name a few.
In 1980, Jacobs became the youngest executive in professional sports as the 21-year-old was named the Director of Sales for the San Francisco Fog of the Major Indoor Soccer League.
Jacobs and his wife Laura reside in Miami along with their three children.
