Boxing News: Calvin Brock Meets David Bostice in Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, NC (October 6, 2005) – Top 10 ranked heavyweight contender Calvin Brock will travel home to Charlotte, NC on Saturday, November 19, to challenge for his first professional title, it was announced today by Main Events CEO Kathy Duva. Brock will challenge veteran David Bostice in a 12 round bout for the IBA Continental Americas Heavyweight Championship at the Cricket Arena in Charlotte, NC.

Brock (26-0, 21 KOs) is ranked in the top 10 by the World Boxing Association (WBA), the International Boxing Federation (IBF), The Ring magazine, and ESPN. The 30-year-old Charlotte native was a member of the 2000 U.S. Olympic Boxing Team. Since turning pro on February 11, 2001, Brock has KOed 16 opponents within the first three rounds. Brock captured the biggest win of his career on April 23, 2005, when he climbed off the canvas to out-punch and out-hustle former world-title challenger Jameel McCline to earn a unanimous decision victory (W 10). The bout was broadcasted live on ESPN pay-per-view. Brock has stopped three of his last four opponents.

Bostice (35-9-1, 15 KOs) has won four of his last five bouts. The 33-year-old San Bernadino, CA native has fought several former world champions and top contenders, such as Tim Witherspoon, Francois Botha, Wladimir Klitschko, Lou Savarese, Jeremy Williams and Al Cole. In his last bout on October 1, 2005, the 6 foot, 5 inch Bostice dominated Ronnie Smith to capture a six round unanimous decision by the score of 60-54 (three times).

Cricket Arena, located on East Independence Boulevard, was Charlotte's original coliseum.
