Boxing News: Montell Griffin at Mohegan Sun March 31
UNCASVILLE, CT (March 1, 2006) – Mohegan Sun presents an exciting night of championship boxing on March 31 as former world light heavyweight champion Montell Griffin (47-6, 30 KO’s) from Chicago battles Norman Jones (28-14-3, 9 KO’s) from Savannah, Georgia in a 12-round bout for the vacant USBA light heavyweight title. The action begins at 7:30pm in the Mohegan Sun Arena, and will be televised live on ESPN2.
Griffin, a tough, seasoned veteran, handed Roy Jones his first loss in capturing the WBC light heavyweight title, and his 47 victories include wins over former world champion James Toney (twice) and contenders such as Randall Yonker, Derrick Harmon and George Khalid Jones. Meanwhile, Norman Jones is coming off a ninth round TKO victory against Robert Marsh on February 25, 2006. Both fighters are primed and ready for battle and have their sights set on the USBA light heavyweight championship.
