Boxing News: Nicolay Valuev wants Lennox Lewis
The new WBA heavyweight champion of the world, Nikolay Valuev, fresh off his showdown with a security guard twice his age and half his size in a St. Petersburg parking lot, has penciled in the winner of next month’s bout in London between Danny Williams and Matt Skelton as his next opponent.
“I think the winner of that bout will be my next opponent. I will be watching their fight with a lot of interest, Valuev said. He “always held the British heavyweight scene in a very high esteem,” and looks forward to pounding one of those blokes.
The so-called “Beast from the East” is unbeaten in 43 fights (31) and won the WBA belt with a controversial decision over John Ruiz in Berlin on Dec. 17.
The first defense of his title is scheduled for April 1, and the world waits with bated breath to see who it will be against. But Valuev admitted that the man he really wants to fight is Lennox Lewis. Keep dreaming. That’s no more likely to happen than Graziano-Zale 4.
