Braehmer vs Cleverly Results – The WBA world light heavyweight title was on the line in Neubrandenberg, Germany on Saturday, Oct. 1, as Juergen Braehmer (48-2) defended his title against Welshman Nathan Cleverly (29-3).

The opening round saw the challenger Cleverly come out fast while Braehmer was moving back. Eventually the two exchanged punches, with Cleverly doing good work to the body. Braehmer was not backing off by the end of the round as the two were mixing it up at the bell. Round Two saw Braehmer come out determined not to give up ground and the two men exchanged punches in close, with Braehmer perhaps doing the better work.

The fight maintained a high pace into the middle rounds, with neither man backing off as the bout turned into a fight of attrition. Braehmer seemed to have the stronger moments as his southpaw stance helped him land a lot of clean punches, but his activity rate dropped toward the end of round six.

The fight was abruptly stopped before the start of round seven. It was Braehmer who would not answer the bell as he apparently suffered an elbow injury that his corner moved to ice immediately. Nathan Cleverly, who formerly held the WBO version of the light heavyweight title, is the new WBA world light heavyweight champion.

In preliminary action, former interim world titleholder at 168 pounds Vincent Feigenbutz got back on the winning path with a sixth round stoppage over Guillermo Ruben Andino. Argentina’s Andino brought a 10-1 record to the table but he didn’t have enough experience to handle young Feigenbutz, who moves to 24-2 with 22 KO victories.

WBA Intercontinental champion Enrico Koelling (21-1) successfully defended his belt with a split decision win over South Africa’s Ryno Liebenberg (17-3). The judges had widely disparate scorecards in this one as two judges saw the fight for Koelling by scores of 117-111 and 116-112 while the third judge saw the fight for Liebenburg 117-111.

The bouts aired on SAT in Germany and on SKY in the United Kingdom. The live event featured nine fights in all.
