Counting Down To BWAA Dinner!
Hopkins, Macklin, Browne plan to attend the BWAA Awards Dinner Thursday Night
Bernard Hopkins, the ageless wonder, has confirmed that he will attend Thursday night's 88th BWAA Awards Dinner at Capitale in New York City. Among Hopkins' list of achievements: he was named 2001 “Fighter of the Year” by the BWAA and The Ring. He has the longest reign as world middleweight champion (10 years, 2 months, and 17 days). He has the most middleweight title defenses (20), surpassing Carlos Monzon. He is the oldest fighter ever to hold the world middleweight championship (40 years, 6 months, and 1 day), surpassing Sugar Ray Robinson. He became the oldest fighter ever to win a world championship (48 years, 1 month, and 22 days) when he defeated Tavoris Cloud to win the IBF Light Heavyweight Championship on March 9, 2013. He surpassed his own record, which he'd set when he defeated Jean Pascal in 2011.
Matthew “Mack The Knife” Macklin, is the former Irish Middleweight Title holder, the former BBBofC British middleweight title holder and the former EBU (European) middleweight title holder. Marcus Browne represented United States at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London and now is 3-0 as a pro with 3 knockouts.
These attendees join a growing list that includes Mike Alvarado, fresh off his spectacular win over Brandon Rios, Fighter of the Year Nonito Donaire, Juan Manuel Marquez, Roy Jones Jr., Timothy Bradley, Ruslan Provodnikov, Paul Malignaggi, Steve Cunningham, Gennady Golovkin, Danny Jacobs, Bob Arum, and Jim Lampley. There will be opportunities to take photos, get autographs, and chat with the many celebrities in attendance. Dave Diamante, the host of NBC's sports show “The Lights,” will serve as Master of Ceremonies.
All ticket holders will receive a gift bag valued at approximately $125.
