Danny Garcia Moves Up The TBRB Rankings

Danny Garcia – This past weekend’s Staples Center card brought to us by the Premier Boxing Champions and FOX Television saw two high level welterweight bouts that had an impact on the Transnational Boxing RankingsBoard’s rankings in that weight class.

One review of the latest rankings reveal a deep division with a lot of talent.  The top spot reserved for the lineal champion sits empty, however that spot will be filled when #1 Manny Pacquiao and #2 Timothy Bradley meet at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas on April 9th.  Bradley and Pacquiao are two veterans who have been at the top of the game for a long time.  The rest of the most recent top ten list consists mainly of fighters who are still looking to get to the top and remain hungry.

Staples Center – Up and Comers Upwardly Mobile

Last week, the TBRB had Garcia ranked #8 and Sadam Ali was ranked #7, so Garcia’s win over Robert Guerrero earned him one spot in the rankings as he effectively switched places with Ali.

It is in the last two spots that the greatest change occured. Guerrero was ranked #9 and the #10 ranked fighter was Aaron Martinez, who faced Sammy Vasquez in the co-featured fight at the Staples Center.  Vasquez soundly defeated Martinez, who had to retire due to an elbow injury after the sixth round.

The losses have sent Guerrero and Martinez tumbling from the top ten rankings in the division.  Sammy “The Who Can Mexican” Vasquez parlayed his decisive win over Martinez to debut at #9, and the #10 spot is now owned by undefeated former Olympian Errol Spence Jr.

Aside from the Pacquiao-Bradley showdown scheduled for April, the welterweight rankings will also be impacted by the March 12th clash between #5 Keith Thurman and #6 Shawn Porter at the Mohegan Sun in Connecticut.  Also, on March 26th, #3 ranked Kell Brook will defend his IBF world title against unranked Kevin Bizier at the Sheffield Arena in England.
