Don King Plaza the Don King Way
ATLANTIC CITY (March 13, 2006) – Don King was honored today at the historic Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City as the City publicly unveiled a street in his name – Don King Plaza. The street is located on Mississippi Avenue, between the Boardwalk and Pacific Avenue. The City Council of Atlantic City voted unanimously in December to dedicate a stretch of Mississippi Avenue in honor the boxing promoter.
Over 21 fights have been staged by Don King Productions in Atlantic City since 1980 including five blockbuster fights with Mike Tyson in the late 1980s – one of which, Tyson vs. Michael Spinks in 1988, still holds the record for the largest live gate gross in the history of Atlantic City. King has distributed turkeys to the less fortunate in Atlantic City during the holiday season for over 10 years; has contributed to local schools; and raised over $200,000 to support families of those involved in the 2003 Tropicana parking garage collapse.
