Fancy Fighting Zab Judah, Kermit Cintron?
Kermit Cintron has hit a different level as a professional, as he’s the owner of the IBF welterweight title, and he showed that his work with Manny Steward has paid dividends when he steamrolled Walter Matthysse on July 14 (KO2).
Now, people target him, and call him out.
It’s nice to be a wanted man, sometimes.
It means you can sift through the talk, and decide which matchup suits you best style-wise, and money-wise.
Antonio Margarito, coming off a loss, has tried to lure Cintron (28-1, 26 KOs) into a rematch. The 2005 fight came when Cintron wasn’t healed from injuries and he took the fight on short notice. That was a different version of the on-message, well-rounded hitter who has blossomed under Steward.
Now, Cintron has gotten word that Zab Judah, the Brooklyn-based welterweight, wants a piece of him, and has promised to make him cry in the ring.
What about it Cintron? Your fight with Jesse Feliciano is off, because the feature bout of the card, Vargas/Mayorga, has been postponed. Want to test Judah (34-5)?
“Right now, I’m smiling,” Cintron told TSS. “I think Zab is in need. He’s crying. He’s lost three in a row, with one no-contest. Fighting him and knocking him out would be stepping back. The whole point of things is moving forward.
“I asked my attorney to see if Mayorga would fight me, I would go to 154, but he told me Mayorga couldn’t make that weight,” Cintron said. “The highest I would go right now is 154, because I walk around at 160-162. But as far as Zab, he has to win a couple of fights, and as long as he wins, then it’s a possibility.”
