Farah Ennis To Headline In AC
ATLANTIC CITY (March 2, 2011) – Pound for Pound Promotions is proud to announce an exciting eight bout professional boxing card at Bally’s Atlantic City on Saturday, April 2, 2011. The card will be headlined by a battle between unbeaten rising super middleweights Farah Ennis (17-0, 11 KO) of Philadelphia, PA and Alexander Johnson (10-0, 4 KO) of Oxon Hill, MD in a ten round bout.
Known as “The Quiet Storm,” the 28-year-old Ennis earned his nickname “because he’s quiet until he gets through those ropes,” explained his manager Moz Gonzalez. “The when he gets through those ropes, the thunder and lightning starts.”
In his most recent match, Ennis stopped Victor Lares in the seventh round this past November en route to winning the vacant NABF super middleweight title, which will not be at stake against Johnson. Ennis is currently ranked #11 by the WBC rankings.
Johnson, 29, also scored a knockout in November, stopping Andre Espeut in two rounds.
“We don’t know much about the kid he’s fighting,” admitted Gonzalez. “Farah is just going to adjust to the kid and come out on top.”
In the co-featured bout, undefeated heavyweight favorite Amir Mansour (12-0, 9 KO) of Wilmington, DE will look to add another big knockout to his record when he faces “Hurricane” Hector Ferreyro (21-9-2, 12 KO) of Laredo, TX in an eight round bout.
Mansour is a southpaw power-puncher with a bachelor's degree in paralegal studies. Ferreyro’s biggest win came in 2007 when he upset 26-0 heavyweight contender Leo Nolan.
Also featured will be Bayonne, NJ's favorite son Bobby Rooney Jr. (11-3-1, 6 KO) returning to the ring for the first time since 2009 to face Walter Foster (4-3-1, 4 KO) of Berkeley, Missouri. Rooney, who runs the Bayonne PAL boxing program, is scheduled to fight six rounds.
The rest of the card will be comprised of top young talent including bantamweight Victor “The Viper” Valenzuela (8-1,1 KO) of Passaic, NJ; lightweight Chris Green (4-2, 1 KO) of Asbury Park, NJ; light-heavyweight “The Bull” Anthony Caputo-Smith (9-0, 7 KO) of Kennett Square, PA; and heavyweight Damian Wills (29-2-1, 22 KO) of Los Angeles, CA.
Tickets, priced at $75 and $50, can be purchased at the Bally's Atlantic City Box office, by calling Ticketmaster at 800-745-3000, calling Pound for Pound Promotions at 201-223-0155 or online at ticketmaster.com.
