Freddie Roach Sees Marquez-Alvarado As A “Tossup”
Freddie Roach will be a spectator, and on a scouting mission, when he checks out the JuanManuel Marquez-Mike Alvarado scrap in Cali tonight.
“Dedham Freddie” told me in a Friday night phoner that he’s hearing that both principals are looking in great shape, and he sees it as a”tossup” fights. Marquez, 41 in August, didn’t look scintillating in his last outing, getting outboxed by Timothy Bradley last year. “And Alvarado is coming off a knockout loss,” the six-time trainer of the year told me. “So you never know how that will affect him. It’s whoever shows up.”
Roach said that he doesn’t have any new hints, gleaned from Manny Pacquiao promoter Bob Arum, or Pacman himself, on who Manny’s next could be. “I haven’t talked to Manny in a bit, they had that baby, and I’m letting him enjoy that,” Coach Roach said.
Check out more on TSS from the Massachusetts native, who talked about Miguel Cotto’s superb camp, Ruslan Provodnikov’s prospects for a Pacquiao fight and whether he thinks Floyd Mayweather actually wanted to fight in a fan-friendly manner May 3…or Father Time has started hobbling “Money.”
