Golden Boy At the Fantasy Springs Casino Feb 5
Fantasy Springs Casino – This Friday night, February 5th Oscar de la Hoya and Golden Boy Promotions are at the Fantasy Springs casino in Indio, California with an eight fight boxing card that will see the feature bouts air on Estrella TV.
The main events feature two undefeated prospects from Golden Boy’s stable of fighters, Frankie Gomez (19-0) and Randy Caballero (22-0), in 10 round bouts.
The welterweight Gomez, known as “Pitbull”, meets veteran Silverio Ortiz (34-16) in the main event as Golden Boy continues to develop the amateur phenom. Ortiz is a rugged veteran, but he went 0-2 in 2015. The losses mounted on his record as he has faced the likes of Marcos Maidana, David Diaz, Humberto Soto and Pablo Cesar Cano among others. If GBP chief De La Hoya’s projection about Gomez is correct, the “blue chipper” should get by Ortiz.
“El Matador” Randy Caballero is making his first appearance at Super Bantamweight as he takes on Ruben Garcia (15-1-1). Caballero is already beyond the “prospect” label, as his last fight saw him capture the vacant IBF World Title at Bantamweight. That fight was back in October of 2014, and he has not fought since. A scheduled defense of his bantamweight title against Lee Haskins was cancelled when Caballero came in 5 ½ pounds over 118 pound limit.
The undercard has more GBP talent in fights of four and six rounds. One fighter sure to get more attention than others on the card because of his famous father is Shane Mosley Jr (4-1) who is in a 4 round bout in one of the night’s first bouts.
Golden Boy normally streams the complete card in partnership with RING.TV, and the current line-up as it stands today appears below.
