Golovkin vs. Brook set for Sept 10 in London
Golovkin vs. Brook Set – A major announcement by Matchroom Boxing earlier today gives us major fight news as middleweight head honcho Gennady Golovkin has signed to fight Kell Brook at the O2 Arena in London on September 10th. The fight comes one week before the scheduled meeting between Canelo Alvarez and Liam Smith.
The announcement came as a surprise. Golovkin has always been open to fighting in new markets, so the gig in London is something team Triple “G” had been working on for a long time, but the most talked about potential match-up had Golovkin facing Chris Eubank Jr., not Kell Brook.
Golovkin Vs Brook Set
For Brook, this is a major challenge. Brook is 36-0 (25 KOs) and he holds the IBF world title at welterweight. Here, he is stepping up a full two weight classes to take on one of the most respected and feared fighters on the planet. Brook had made mention about a potential fight with Golovkin, but the idea did not appear to gain much traction.
Golovkin’s name surfaces as a potential opponent throughout the year, and Eubank Jr was the latest fighter to actively call out Golovkin. Earlier this week however, Golovkin sent out a message via Twitter that apparently called out Eubank Jr.
Everything agreed from our side, now waiting for @ChrisEubankJr, who all of a sudden has lost his pen…

Brook has a much talked-about rivalry with Amir Khan, and in taking this step, he is following Khan’s blueprint of moving up in weight to look for a bigger challenge. Win or lose vs. GGG, Brook will retain his IBF welterweight title.
Golovkin (35-0, 32 KOs) is going to be facing a smaller man, but Brook does cut a great deal of weight and is among the biggest welterweights on the planet right now. What is more important for Golovkin is that it breaks open the British market.
Moving ahead with this match does not exclude matching Golovkin with Eubank Jr in the future, and WBO world titlist Billy Joe Saunders is also waiting in the wings in England. Look for the fight to air on HBO in the United States and on SKY Box Office in the UK.
More details to come on this just announced mega-fight.
