Hogan and Bello Win BWAA Photo Awards
Al Bello, shooting for Getty Images, and Tom Hogan, of Hoganphotos.com, took top honors in the Boxing Writers Association of America photo contest.
They will be recognized at the 88th annual BWAA Awards Dinner on April 11 at the Capitale in New York, along with placing entries in the BWAA writing competition. The writing contest winners will be announced when the judging is completed.
Bello, who also took a second place in the Action Photo category, placed first in the Feature Photo category, for a shot of an exuberant Juan Manuel Marquez leaping onto the tops to celebrate after knocking out Manny Pacquiao. Hogan’s winning photo was of Miguel Cotto landing a left hand to the face of Austin Trout.
Showtime photographer Tom Casino also placed in two categories, taking a second in Feature and third in Action.
The other top-three finisher is Will Hart, for HBO, with a third in Feature.
Honorable mentions went in a deep and impressive field went to Hart, Chris Farina and Naoki Fukuda in Action and Chris Cozzone, Emily Harney and Miguel Salazar in Feature.
Staff photographers for International General Media, with Yong Kim as lead judge, comprised the selection panel.
