Hughie Fury Says He Will Break Mike Tyson's Record

London (11 June)Hughie Fury is determined to become the youngest world heavyweight champion after his latest knockout win.

After demolishing the durable Ladislav Kovarik inside round-one, the 18-year-old heavyweight has his eyes focussed on Iron Mike Tyson’s infamous record.

“I’ve got plenty of time, I’m only young and I’m improving every single fight,” Hughie said.

“But I will do it, I will beat Mike Tyson’s record and be the youngest heavyweight world champion.”

Hughie faced Czech Republic fighter Kovarik, the man who took Martin Rogan the distance back in February,on the James DeGale undercard Saturday night, at Glow Bluewater, shown on Channel 5 in the UK and Wealth TV in the US.

From the opening bell Hughie landed solid left jabs, moving across the ring and picking his openings.

A firm left lead followed by smashing right hands sent Kovarik down for the first eight-count of the round.

Hughie, the first ever British/Irish fighter to win a gold medal at the AIBA Youth World Boxing Championships at super-heavyweight, sensed the finish and moved in.

Landing solid lefts and rights, Kovarik was, once again, sent to the canvas – this time crashing across the ring and into the ropes with referee Mark Greenwaving off the contest.

The victory gives Hughie his fifth straight win since his debut in March and his fourth knockout.

“The plan was just to pick him off from behind the jab, he is a very durable opponent,” Hughie said.

“I have seen him on a few videos and I was expecting it to go a few rounds, but the earlier the better really.”

Hughie next fights in Norwich this Saturday, June 15, looking to continue building momentum and experience.

On the Hennessy Sports show there were also impressive wins for WBC International super-bantamweight champion Kid Galahad, stopping Isaac Nettey for the first time in his, now, 31-fight career and top of the bill James DeGale MBE defended his WBC Silver super-middleweight title against Stjepan Bozic.

Chris Eubank Jr also passed his toughest test, breaking down the tricky Tyan Booth for an eighth-round stoppage win in his 10th professional contest.
