Joe Calzaghe Rags Clinton Woods
Joe Calzaghe wants Clinton Woods now
Undefeated Welsh super middleweight boxing sensation Joe Calzaghe claims IBF light heavyweight titleholder Clinton Woods, who defeated Glen Johnson over the weekend to retain his crown, is scared to fight him.
Woods, from Sheffield, England, said that he’s willing put it all on the line against Calzaghe, just so long as there’s a 50-50 purse split which Joe thinks is bunk.
“Clinton Woods knows he can’t beat me,” Calzaghe said, according to the Mirror. “If he thinks he can beat me, then he should fight me and prove it. If he doesn’t fight me it will be because he knows he would get beat.
Calzaghe’s not alone in believing he’ll beat Clinton Woods if and when they meet, but the bout, should it get made, ought to drive the fight fans in Great Britain batty.
“He’ll get a big payday and I’ll get a big payday, so let’s get it on, repeated Calzaghe. He’s not getting any younger and who else is he going to fight?
“It’s a natural fight to make. He’s the best at light heavyweight. I’m the best at super middleweight.”
Asked to critique Woods’ performance, which Calzaghe was watching ringside Saturday night, Joe said that “It was like watching a fight in slow motion. I’m Speedy Gonzalez compared to those guys. I congratulate Clinton on winning, and he’s strong and brave, but he would never beat me.”
