Joe Calzaghe To Fight Peter Manfredo
Joe Calzaghe to lace em up with Contender Peter Manfredo?
Word is that Welsh superstar Joe Calzaghe, 42-0 (31 KOs), will fighter former Contender attraction Peter Manfredo Jr., 26-3 (12 KOs), possibly on March 10 at the M.E.N. Arena in Manchester or at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff, Wales.
Promoter Frank Warren, who hinted last month in New York City that Manfredo was in the running as a possible opponent for Calzaghe, has remained officially tight-lipped, according to icWales, on [his] plans for Wales’ WBO/IBF super middleweight champion, but those in the know suggest it is almost a done deal for the Rhode Islander to cross the Atlantic and challenge him.
Warren said, He (Manfredo) would make sense for a number of reasons. HBO will be televising, so I’d like it to be a high-profile American, and The Contender is watched on both sides of the Atlantic. We might get 20,000-30,000 in the Millennium Stadium for that one.
Although Manfredo has a name, he’s not the same caliber fighter of some of the names that were tossed around as likely next-in-lines to fight Joe, but Manfredo’s trainer Freddie Roach, for one, isn’t the least bit concerned.
