Jose Navarro to Fight for Super Flyweight Title on Jan. 3
While most of us will be reveling in the New Year, Jose Navarro will be preparing for the opportunity of a lifetime. DiBella Entertainment's top-rated super flyweight star gets his chance at a world championship when he faces Katsushige Kawashima for the WBC 115-pound title on January 3 at Ariake Coliseum in Tokyo, Japan.
Navarro (21-0, 9 KO's) puts his unbeaten pro record on the line against in the main event against titleholder Kawashima (27-3, 18 KO's), who will be fighting on his home turf. Kawashima has never fought outside of Japan, while Navarro will be traveling 5,452 miles for his title opportunity.
A native of Los Angeles, CA, and a member of the 2000 United States Olympic team, Navarro has reeled off 21 straight victories without tasting defeat in the professional ranks. Navarro is WBC's no. 1 contender for the super flyweight championship.
“When you want the champion, sometimes you have to go to his homeland to get him,” says Navarro. “I am confident. It will be a happy New Year.”
