Jose The Punisher Perez Jr. Fights in San Jose

FREMONT, California (March 24, 2005) – Former amateur boxing star and 5-time national Golden Gloves champion Jose “The Punisher” Perez Jr. goes for 6th straight win next Thursday, March 31, at The Civic Auditorium in San Jose. Perez is fighting on the undercard of the main and co-main events: Ryan Davis (18-3-2) vs. Juan Carlos Garcia (7-6) and Ricardo Cortes (13-1-1) vs. Jose Ramirez (10-9)

Jose “The Punisher” Perez Jr. was an amateur legend. He put together one of the best amateur records (147-20) in California boxing history. He made his pro debut on May 27, 2004 and is about to muscle his way into the professional ranks. Jose's last victory at the Arco arena in Sacramento was against a kid named Geraldo Gonzalez making his pro debut. Jose looked sharp and was, according to his father, “picking this guy apart.” The fight ended after 3 full round. Gonzalez was knocked down several times and was unable to answer the bell for round four.

With Jose's dad now serving as both his manager and trainer, things are moving forward. Team Perez is looking for a quality promoter who sees Jose’s potential everyone sees in Jose. In his last outing almost 1,000 thousand Bay Area fans came out to the fight in support of their local hero. Waving banners and signs, Jose's legion of fans continue to grow after each and every fight.

“This kid Jose is a rare talent,” says boxing's legendary trainer and manager Emanuel Steward, founder of the Kronk Gym in Detroit. “Even though he is such an accomplished amateur fighter I have always thought he will be going much farther in the pro ranks. I really think he has the potential to become world champion. A while back Jose and his dad came to Detroit to get some work in. Jose was a well liked and respected fighter here. And that's tough to do at the Kronk. The competition level in here is very tough. He fought basically everybody he could both pro and amateurs. Every time he would spar people would stop training and watch this kid. His ring attributes are phenomenal. He fights like a well schooled pro and was fighting this way even when he was still in the amateurs.”

The featherweight division has a lot of great fighters these days and it looks like Jose “The Punisher” Perez Jr. might be one of them.
