Klitschko, Lacy and Ouma all win

Wladimir Klitschko won Saturday night, defeating Davarryl Williamson, but the night did not go according to plan for the Ukrainiane.

Klitschko won a split decision in his first fight since that shock world heavyweight title defeat by Lamon Brewster back in May. But despite prevailing on the scorecards, he was knocked down and ended the fight bleeding on his stool.

The fight was stopped at the end of the fifth round because of a head butt with Klitschko bleeding too badly to continue. The head butt was unintentional and the ring doctor ruled Klitschko could not continue.

Prior to the bout being stopped after the head butt, Klitschko was already bleeding over his left eye and had tasted the canvas after a Williamson right hand caught him off balance.

In the best fight of the night, Jeff Lacy became the first member of the 2000 U.S. Olympic boxing team to win a pro title when he stopped Syd Vanderpool of Canada in the eighth round for the IBF super middleweight championship.

In the other bout on the Showtime card, Kassim Ouma beat Verno Phillips to win the IBF 154-pound title.
