Kornilov Says Herrera, Judah and Mosley Spurned Half Mill To Fight Ruslan
Vadim Kornilov reached out to a passel of vets, and the payday seems quite more than reasonable. $500,000 to come to Russia to fight Ruslan Provodnikov. But he’s heard a bunch of no thank yous. So Ruslan’s manager Kornilov keeps working the phones, seeking someone to accept a challenge that could be one of those “sounded good at the time” deals…
Why, you ask?
Because I’m guessing that the Provodnikov standing across from whoever on Nov. 28 in a Russian ring will be a shade or two nastier and more effective than he was in his last outing, on June 14. On that night, he started fast, and faded, and lost his WBO 140 crown, because his foe, Chris Algieri, was better able to adapt than he was.
Come Nov. 28, someone will be testing my theory.
“Opponent will be finalized this week,” Kornilov told me. “Mauricio Herrera, Zab Judah and Shane Mosley all turned down $500,000.”
Hmm. Sounds like a princely sum. But, easy for me to say. I’m not the one who’d be signing on for an all-you-can-eat leather eating festival…
