Krasniqi, Wallisch Notch Wins – Quick Results From Germany

Germany was at center-stage to kick-off boxing in the new year, as Saturday night January 9th saw the Maritim Hotel in Berlin play host to a seven fight boxing card that saw the main events air on SAT.1.
The feature bout of the evening saw WBO European Heavyweight champion Michael Wallisch win a unanimous decision over Ivica Bacurin (23-8-1) to move his record to a perfect (16-0). Wallisch won by a wide margin and Bacurin even had a point deducted for a foul and was down in the last round. Though Wallisch remains undefeated, he is 30 years old and some question his readiness to step up in competition. Wallisch weighed over 240 lbs for the fight and looked out of shape, and he only fought once in 2015, so Wallisch is in need of an active 2016.
Also edging out a win is veteran Robin Krasniqi (44-4) who found himself in a war with journeyman Cagri Ermis (13-9-1). In the end, the three judges gave the fight to Krasniqi. Krasniqi has held regional belts several times throughout his long career, and two of his losses have come in world title fights. Since losing a bid for te WBA World title at Light Heavyweight to fellow countryman Juergen Braehmer back in March of 2015, this was his second fight scheduled for eight rounds. The match was booked to avoid ring rust and add a victory, but Krasniqi turned out to have to work much harder than he likely expected to score a narrow win with the judges.
Below are complete results from the eight fight card held at the Maritim Hotel Saturday, January 9th.
