THE RIGO-LUTION SOLUTION Rigo vs. Agbeko Dec. 7 in AC
UPDATE, Tuesday 10:30 AM ET: Rigondeaux manager Gary Hyde checked in with TSS. “Bob Arum told me last night that Rigondeaux vs. Agbeko will go ahead December 7th in Atlantic City. We are expecting contracts today (Tuesday).”
One of the top technicians in the game, coming off his career best win, is seemingly booked for another bout.
The WBA and WBO super bantam champ Guillermo Rigondeaux (12-0 with 8 KOs) befuddled pound for pound ace Nonito Donaire April 13 in NYC, earning a UD12 and newfound respect from folks who had acknowledged that the Cuban was an amateur ace but still needed to prove his worth as a pro.
Rigo (seen with clearly overjoyed promoter Bob Arum following the Cuban's win over Nonito Donaire, in Chris Farina-Top Rank photo) is heavily rumored to be gloving up Dec. 7 in Atlantic City against former world champ champion Joseph Agbeko (29-4 with 22 KOs).
The 33-year-old hitter lost two straight to Abner Mares in 2001, then was off until March 22, when he downed Luis Melendez (UD12) in Ghana. He holds the IBO bantam crown.
Frank Espinoza manages Agbeko and he told me that “it is not confirmed.” But, he said, “Joseph is looking forward to fighting Rigo!”
A TV source refused to confirm or deny that date, and I didn't hear back, as yet, from two sources associated with the Cuban.
Fight fans know how fluid fights and dates are, so this isn't set in stone, until it is. Stay tuned…
