Looks Like Tureano Johnson Could Get Next Golovkin Date
Gennady Golovkin will most certainly get another fight in before he is able to land the winner of the Nov. 21 Miguel Cotto vs. Canelo Alvarez bout. His crew doesn’t want to start talking about that, understandably, as they want to see how things play out next month, when Cotto puts his WBC middleweight title won off of Sergio Martinez up for grabs against the Mexican heart-tugger.
But we are curious, ever so curious..
My man Mr X said he was hearing that it is quite possible that based off of his solid showing on the Oct. 17 GGG-Lemieux undercard, Bahamian Tureano Johnson could get a date with 3G.
He looked able vs. Eammon O’Kane and showed himself to be willing when he stood at the post-fight presser podium and promised he would do more than show up and survive if he’s able to land a Golovkin waltz. What about it, Tureano? Is a Golovkin fight next for you?
“I hope so,” he said. “I’m getting ready now. I just want to be ready for when the time comes.”
Other people theorize GGG welcomes the winner of the forthcoming Andy Lee vs. BJ Saunders (Dec. 19) faceoff. Another smart friend of mine who’d know thinks it’s more likely Tureano, not the Lee-Saunders winner, gets tapped for Golovkins’ next. Makes sense timing-wise, politics-wise, maybe money-wise. We’ll keep you apprised, friends…
