Marcus Browne Gets W Over Cornelius White
New Yorker Marcus Browne had the skill edge, big-time, over Cornelius White, and got the easy W on Saturday, in Brooklyn. The judges loved his work, to the tune of 98-92, 99-91 times two, at Barclays Center.
Browne, celebrating the recent birth of a baby girl, went to 15-0 and the loser, from Houston, dropped to 21-4. In his last fight, he was stopped in round three by Sergey Kovalev.
In the first, MB came out banging. The lefty popped two jabs, then a long right. He looked to be the boss there. In the second, Browne got a little more rugged, in White’s face, in close. In the third, we saw Browne moving, mixing up his gameplan.
White knew he needed to get nastier, bring it, or get dissected. In the fourth, a right on the break buzzed White. Did he play it up? His corner told him to take five….He took less….Browne is now more of an attacker sort at times. He mixes up his hand speed too, smartly. In the fifth, they both tumbled to the mat. White settled in, got comfy, but that didn’t mean he had an insight in how to win rounds. In the sixth, White hit the deck. Was it a low blow? It was, a left, on purpose, I dare say. White’s hands were too slow to tag MB…White was coming forward but the aggression wasn’t effective enough to win the round. In the seventh, Browne hit the deck, but off a slip. In the eighth, White hung tough, was there to survive, but thrive? If the aim was to go rounds… In the ninth, and tenth, Browne knew he had it in the bag. 98-92, 99-91 times two, were the scores, and Browne is edging closer to a big stepup fight.
