Marroquin Meets Leal On Saturday
MARROQUIN IN 1ST MAIN EVENT ON FSN;
KOROBOV, TOMMY Z, AND ANDY RUIZ
IN ACTION ON SATURDAY NIGHT AT WINSTAR
Young rising star Roberto Marroquin of Dallas goes into his first main event on FSN (10 pm eastern) when
he takes on featherweight Frankie Leal of Mexicali on a Top Rank Live! fight card at the WinStar Casino
in Thackerville, Oklahoma on Saturday, April 23.
Marroquin, 21, has a record 19-0, 14 KOs. He is ranked WBO #12, IBF #14 at featherweight.
“I was born, raised in Dallas,” said Marroquin. “I have one brother, three sisters. I started boxing when I
was eight years old. My dad encouraged me, saying he didn't want me running around on the streets. The
first time I boxed it was at a flea market – no kidding. But now I am prepared and ready for a big
fight like this.”
Leal, 25, has a record of 15-5-3, 9 KOs. In his last bout he had a 12 round draw against 11-2-0 Miguel
Gonzalez in Mexicali.
Marroquin vs. Leal is scheduled for 10 rounds.
Big punching, unbeaten Russian middleweight Matt Korobov, 14-0, is on the card. He has been traininig
in Las Vegas with former champion Mike McCallum at the Top Rank Gym. Korobov will face Marcos
Primera of North Carolina.
NFL player Tommy Zbikowski of the Baltimore Ravens goes into his 4th pro bout, taking on Blake Warner
of Oklahoma City. Tommy Z, as he is known in boxing, has been training with Emanuel Steward in Detroit.
Heavyweight Andy Ruiz, 9-0, of Mexicali is taking on Angel Herrera, 6-4-3, of Texas. Ruiz trains at the
Wild Card Gym in Hollywood, Calif.
The weigh in will be 3 pm Friday in the Green Room at the WinStar Casino.
